3 years and 4 days ago Halo 3, the game touted as “The most anticipated game of all time” (until the next one, that is) was released. We at THS almost immediately viewed the game as a big disappointment and have since moved on to greener pastures, however many players have remained faithful to the once-revolutionary-yet-now-average franchise. Those faithful have now been rewarded with Halo ODST, a title which introduces a new story campaign and an extra multi-player disc that includes, er, all the maps they’ve already bought.

It’s 2009 and yet another Resident Evil is upon us. What’s that you say? It’s not a remake or port of Resident Evil 4? OH. MAH. GAWRD. Ah, so we have Resident Evil 5, the newest installment in the once scary-but-now-not-so-much horror series. The changes brought from RE4, which have made it be considered one of the best games of all time, have of course remained in RE5. While some have been quick to criticize, I’ve been of the opinion that for the most part, RE5 has managed to take what was loved from RE4 and build upon it.

Gears of War 2 has been the game 360 owners have been waiting for ever since Halo 3 mania wore off. The original Gears of War 1 built a reputation of being a gory 3rd person shooter with cover gameplay. Epic since then has been working on creating a successor that adds to what Gears of War 1 put out, but what should have been a manageable task given its predecessor has been somewhat of a mixed bag of success and failure.

Back in 1999 I never thought I could get so much into a first person shooter for the PC, but then Unreal Tournament came along and changed all of that. UT was a fast paced game that threw away most conventions like reloading and rockets killing upon impact. UT also placed an emphasis on competition as multiplayer was pushed as the dominant form of playing the game. Let’s fast forward to 2008. After having Unreal Tournament III on the PC and PS3 for over 8 months, UTIII has finally arrived on the Xbox 360. As I popped in the disc, sounds of the deep voiced “commentator” kept ringing in my head. “HEADSHOT,” “MULTI-KILL,” “ROCKET SCIENTIST.” UTIII keeps the tradition of a fast paced, competitive, and frantic FPS with some minor additions, but as you’ll read doesn’t exactly add much to the FPS pool when compared to other FPS of recent.
